Process engineering for Sewage treatment plants (STPs), Effluent treatment facilities (ETPs) including Central Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP) for treating effluents from multiple manufacturing units.  Since almost all these facilities are designed to treat and recycle effluents for process plants & utilities, there is a no discharge of treated effluents in the environment and the facilities are called as Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) facilities.  Due to the complex nature of the effluent, which could impact the efficiency of biological treatment, the effluent streams are segregated and pretreated. For most of the ETPs/ CETPs the treatment systems are consisting of primary treatment, biological treatment, media filtration & Membrane filtration. To enable recycle, treatment process also includes Ultrafiltration (UF), and Reverse Osmosis (RO) system, followed by Multi-Effect Evaporator (MEE) and Agitated Thin Film Dryer (ATFD). The RO permeate and MEE condensate are recycled for suitable applications. Treated sewage is recycled for landscaping and flushing after treatment and disinfection.
